Connecticut has a handful of smaller Alpine ski areas that are convenient to the New York metropolitan area. Families can enjoy a day of skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing at prices that will fit a budget. Plus these ski areas have decades of experience teaching youngsters how to master sliding down the slopes.

Cross country skiing and snowshoeing is done throughout the state in local and state parks. And most towns have a good sledding hill or two.
