Community and visitors a focus of educational Harriet Beecher Stowe Center
A variety of events engage the community and visitors to the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center, from author events and a marathon reading of “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” to film screenings, panel discussions, lectures and musical performances. Education and inspiration are offered via guided tours of the abolitionist’s Victorian-era cottage, where the issues Stowe faced, including slavery and role of women, as well as the issues we face today are discussed. Salons at Stowe engage the community in issue discussions, and school programs engage students. The center’s research library offers access to a vast collection of material about the Stowe and Beecher families, including 12,000 books,180,000 manuscripts, posters, photos and drawings.
