Enter this historic inn and you enter a world of comfort and hospitality

One of the oldest continuously operating inns in the country, The Griswold Inn opened its doors in 1776. But there is nothing revolutionary about its mission: to offer guests comfortable accommodations, sophisticated cuisine and modern amenities. The inn’s 33 unique guest rooms are furnished with antiques and period reproductions. Some have fireplaces, vintage claw-foot tubs – and they all have the famously comfy Leonard’s beds. Continental breakfast is complimentary, but dining in the historic dining rooms amid period art, or grabbing a burger and a brew in the Tap Room or tapas and wine in a quiet Wine Room corner should not be missed (ditto for the famous Hunt Breakfast on Sunday). Right outside the inn’s doors is the lovely village of Essex, perfect for strolling.
